When you are a tourist in Cyprus you just might be visiting the island during a public holiday and not even know it. There are at least eleven holidays that local residents recognize each year.

January 1st, of course is celebrated every year as New Year’s Day and many public offices are closed as the celebration goes on, just as it does all over.

The residents as the Kurban Bayram or the feast of the sacrifice know February 1st-4th.
April 23rd is the celebration of the Turkish National Sovereignty and children’s day.
And, believe it or not those on Cyprus know Labor Day know as May the 1st.
May 19th is youth and sports day.
July the 20th is known as the Turkish Intervention and peace day.
August the 1st is social resistance day
August 30th is known as victory day.
October 29th of course is Turkish Republic Day.
November 15th is Republic day of T.N.R.C.
November 3rd is Ramzam

Many outsiders don’t know what these holidays stand for, however if any festivities take place the tourists are encouraged to take part. The residents of northern Cyprus love to share their holidays as well as other island traditions with any visitors or tourists to the island.

Although there are some residents who do have reservations about having outsiders attend the festivals, but there aren’t that many. Residents encourage those visiting to learn more about the Cypriot culture and their ways of living as well as their customs of celebrating the different holidays they know so well.

Yet, many of the tourists use Cyprus as their own vacation place for holiday celebrations in their own country. This is why Cyprus, Europe is also known as holiday island. Many people use northern Cyprus as a vacation spot its true, however for some it may be during the Christmas season in their country. Or Thanksgiving. It really doesn’t matter because the climate is what draws many people to Cyprus during these cooler holidays during the year.

Tourism in Cyprus is always higher during the cooler months in different parts of the world, just because people are escaping the cold temperatures where they live. And for good reason, Cyprus, Europe is the perfect place to be. 300 days of sunshine is a good reason to visit the island and the many attractions and holidays that Cyprus celebrates as well make the stay for the tourists amazing. Many of the tourists return to Cyprus, Europe simply because the first time around was such a memorable and wonderful occasion for them. Or sometimes it is due to the fact, that there are so many different things to see and do here that in some circumstances for the tourists there just isn’t enough time in their agenda to see them all and to take all the beauty of the island in.

Northern Cyprus welcomes visitors year round. It doesn’t matter to them. And, as the real estate and property development increases many people are buying properties for summer homes. A place of their own on Cyprus, where they can get away to during the cold months in their own country.
